The technique of cosmetic dental bonding is when a composite resin is utilized for a number of corrective and general cosmetic intentions. A good analogy for dental bonding compound would be envisioning a sculptor's ball of clay.
Why try cosmetic bonding?
When your dentist uses composite resin bonding, any broken or fragmented teeth, spaces or gaps or reforming can be completed quite efficiently. Even the colour of the teeth can be redone.
Cosmetic bonding is used to fill affected teeth in the back as well as the front of the patient's oral cavity. Composites are the right choice when decayed teeth are being repaired, making general cosmetic restorations and for recolouring or reshaping teeth. Cosmetic bonding is capable of lightening stained teeth, closing small spaces and can restore crooked and awkward smiles.
Essentially, cosmetic bonding is a wonderful dental tool for repairing any innate flaws you have with your teeth by simply adding a thin covering of resin compound to the exterior of the teeth. Next, the dentist will add a bonding substance to it and proceed to sculpt, colour and contour the area for a spectacular result. Soon after a high concentration of special light is used to harden the resin and the façade is buffed to a fine polished texture.
An exceedingly gentle etching solvent is spread over the teeth to produce diminutive fissures in the enamel of the tooth. These fine cracks are what assist the hardy resin in adhering materials to your teeth. When the resin is applied the intensive light is used to cure the resin to the surface of the affected tooth / teeth. Every additional layer of resins is cured in only minutes. After the final coating is applied to the teeth, this cosmetic bonding material is now sculpted to fit your tooth / teeth and it gets polished to a fine texture. As you can imagine, your dentist requires a certain amount of artistic discipline.
The resin is available in various tones and hues so it can be matched correctly with your existing set of teeth. Since there are a number of layers involved here the procedure normally takes a little more time than the customary silver fillings. Based on your personal procedure, the process could take up to two hours to finish.
Two kinds of cosmetic bonding are available. The type of cosmetic bonding you and your dentist chose will be determined by how much area you have to restore.
Making Small Corrections
These will usually only require one appointment to complete. The fillings will be colour correct and then bonded to the exterior of the tooth for additional stability. These are best when used on small fillings and front exterior fillings since their durability is questionable for larger fillings.
Making Larger Corrections
These will usually be created in a dental lab and take two appointments at which time a small mold will be made of your teeth and a temporary placement will be set in until the lab completes the custom fitted unit. Typically the new piece will be made from porcelain. The customized permanent fitting will then be bonded into place during the second visit. The patient will find this variety to be even more natural appearing, resistant to staining and ultimately more stable.
Benefits Of Dental Bonding:
Esthetically speaking, cosmetic bonding has it all over silver fillings. Since the silver does not adhere to teeth, the entire healthy tooth is usually removed in order to secure a silver filling in position. Composites allow your dentist to eliminate only the damaged portion of the tooth. Dissimilar to the silver fillings, composite bonding will expands with the teeth meaning it will be less probable there will be any cracking of the tooth. Composites bond straight to the tooth for additional support. Composites are excellent for repairing cracks, chips and spaces; colour matching with your teeth for an amazingly natural appearance.
